Melisa K. Estes, MDTraining Dr. Melisa K. Estes specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Estes attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia for college, medical school and residency. During her residency with the department of Rehabilitation Medicine, she obtained a broad spectrum of training in the evaluation and treatment of non-operative musculoskeletal conditions, use and prescription of orthotics and prosthetics, spinal injections, spasticity management, pain management, and post-injury or post-surgical rehabilitation. Prior to joining Palm Beach Orthopeadic Institute, Dr. Estes was the Co-Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic and the Medical Director for the inpatient Orthopedic, Spinal Cord Injury, and General Rehabilitation Programs. Her outpatient clinics included pediatric orthopedic rehabilitation, amputation, spinal cord injury, geriatric rehabilitation, and general musculoskeletal management. Scope of Practice Dr. Estes enjoys seeing both adult and pediatric patients. Her philosophy is to treat the patient as a whole to reach their maximal functional potential. Her practice covers a wide range of clinical disorders. Patients with back, neck, or joint pain will be treated with a variety of non-operative treatments from recommendation of physical therapy to spinal injections or joint injections. Dr. Estes also treats children with cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disease, gait impairment, and sports injuries. Her spasticity management has included extensive training in botulinum toxin injections, use of oral medications, baclofen pump management, and peripheral nerve blocks. Dr. Estes will be working in conjunction with the orthopedic surgeons at PBOI to provide excellent care along the continuum from initial injury or chronic disease to recovery Personal Dr. Estes is a true Floridian. She grew up in Tampa and is excited about returning to Florida after fifteen years in Atlanta. She enjoys the beach, boating, jogging, dance, Pilates and yoga. Dr. Estes volunteers time at Jerry Thomas Elementary School and working with the Emergency Response Team at Christ Fellowship Church. |
