What Is Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
Durable Medical Equipment, or DME, refers to items prescribed by your physician to support healing and recovery after an injury, illness, or surgery. These products provide therapeutic benefits and are designed for repeated, long-term use.
For orthopedic patients, DME may include braces, supports, crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs, knee scooters, splints, and orthotics. Insurance coverage for DME varies based on your specific health plan.
