Local surgeon now offering new solution to heal ACL tears
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (December 2024) – This November, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon James Kerpsack, M.D., performed his first BEAR procedure, or bridge-enhanced ACL repair, for ACL injuries. Dr. Kerpsack serves patients throughout the region with bone, joint and muscle needs. He is available to see patients at Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute’s offices located in Jupiter at Jupiter Outpatient Center Building, 2055 Military Trail, Suite 200; in Palm Beach Gardens at Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute Building, 4215 Burns Road, Suite 100; and in West Palm Beach at Victor Farris Medical Building, 1411 N. Flagler Drive, Suite 9800, and at Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute Building, 7701 Southern Blvd., Suite 100. Patients seeking specialized care for chronic joint pain are encouraged to call 561-694-7776 to schedule an appointment.
The BEAR Implant is a state-of-the-art device designed to help the patient’s anterior cruciate ligament heal itself. Acting as a bridge, it effectively binds the damaged ACL tissues together. It uses a decellularized, bovine-derived, type I collagen implant that resorbs within eight weeks of implantation. Because the implant preserves the patient’s natural ACL tissue, surgeons do not need to remove additional tissue from another part of the body or operate in any secondary areas. This reduces overall recovery time compared to traditional reconstruction.
The BEAR Implant procedure offers the following benefits:
- Helps the ACL heal itself.
- Restores the torn ACL quality and size similar to the non-injured ACL.
- Single surgical site.
- No worry about cadaver donor graft quality.
- Potential for less postoperative pain.
“At Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute, we are dedicated to keeping our local athletes healthy and playing at their best,” said Priya Chandradat, CEO of Palm Beach Orhtopaedic Institute. “With Dr. Kerpsack’s expertise, we are excited to offer this new technology to help so many more patients heal and keep moving.”
Dr. Kerpsack earned his medical degree at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Kerpsack pursued further training and completed his fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The 10 Best Tennis Elbow Braces of 2024 for Optimal Support and Pain Relief
Tennis elbow, clinically known as lateral epicondylitis, is a common injury that results from continuously overusing your elbow. In addition to playing tennis, the cumulative motions of painting, cooking, weightlifting, golfing, and yoga can also strain the muscles and tendons in your elbow area, causing tension, discomfort, and pain. Jerry Yoo, DPT, founder and CEO of Next Level Physio, says that if you're struggling to carry objects or have persistent elbow pain, wearing a tennis elbow brace could relieve some discomfort and pain by moving the point of tension closer to the wrist.
