John Hinson, MD
John Hinson, MD Fellowship TrainedShoulder & Elbow Surgery
I attended Florida State University for my undergraduate education and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I then obtained my medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. While at the Medical College I maintained the scholarship for being the top ranked student in my class and served as president of our Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. I completed a general surgery internship followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia. After completion of my residency program I completed a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at the St. Francis Shoulder Institute in Columbus, Georgia. Under the mentorship of Dr. George McCluskey I gained valuable knowledge and experience in advanced techniques of shoulder and elbow surgery including arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and the care of traumatic conditions.
I began my career on the faculty of the orthopaedic department of the Medical College of Georgia. I worked to further develop my clinical and surgical skills while taking the time to help in the education of both medical students and resident surgeons. Work there included research in both basic and clinical science as well as presentations at regional and national meetings. I contributed book chapters and published work in international journals on topics including shoulder exams, shoulder fractures, and shoulder replacements. During this time I was fortunate to serve in the leadership role of president of the Georgia Shoulder and Elbow Society. After five years on faculty, I left to accept a position at the Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute. I have gone on to become a partner and have spent the past 10 years practicing in Palm Beach County.
I have dedicated my career to the advanced care of shoulder and elbow conditions. My goal is to build a relationship with my patient so I can understand their medical and life needs to provide them with the best care possible. The goal in every patient is to deliver relief with conservative care if appropriate. When surgery is the best treatment option for a patient, I make every effort to help them understand what procedure we are planning and communicate the steps in their care from the initial visit through their postsurgical recovery.
I have a specific interest in caring for rotator cuff conditions. I make every effort to educate my patients on this condition and explain nonsurgical and surgical options to them. We will discuss the use of orthobiologics treatment with patients and use them when appropriate. I specialize in surgical treatments for rotator cuff conditions including complex and revision surgery. My biggest goal is to provide skilled surgical care for my patients. I also make it a priority to take the time to guide them through their recovery to maximize the results from these procedures.
My further surgical interests include treatment of shoulder and elbow fractures, management of shoulder instability with a focus on arthroscopic techniques, treatment of overuse elbow injuries including ligament and tendon injuries, and shoulder replacement including reverse total shoulder replacement.

- Dr Hinson provided excellent caring and thorough analysis of my issue - recommend him and PBOI highly!
- The process from A-Z was pleasant. Dr. Hinson was referred to me by another medical professional and he reached out to me after hours to introduce himself and make sure my appointment was scheduled within an acceptable time frame. During my visit Dr. Hinson spent as much time as I needed to answer my questions and address any concerns I had. The office is modern and clean, the staff is helpful and professional. I 'm very pleased with the whole experience.
- PBOI has helped me through a shoulder surgery and now a femur recovery after surgery. John H has been a real genius.
- Dr. Hinson may specialize in shoulders but don 't let that deter you from going to him for other orthopedic issues. I ruptured my ACL and went to see Dr Hinson upon the recommendation of someone in the healthcare business. Being that I am not a “spring chicken” I had to make the decision as to whether to have surgery for a reconstruction or just live with no ACL. I am active as a golfer and bicycle rider and didn't want to give up those activities. Dr. Hinson discussed the options with me and we decided to proceed with reconstruction surgery with an allograft. The surgery and results couldn 't have been more successful! Not only is he an awesome orthopedic surgeon but he has a professional staff that are the nicest I have ever encountered.
- Dr. Hinson is the best ever. He is extremely welcoming, gives you an envelope of time to discuss your concerns, then provides expert feedback as to the cause and various treatment options for your condition. I am a transplant from Colorado and was extremely fortunate to find this outstanding doctor. I recommend him without reservation
- Dr. Hinson was thorough, spent a great deal of time explaining the extent of my injuries (prior doctor was vague) AND gave realistic insight into the post-operative recovery. I wouldn 't feel comfortable with any other surgeon at this point and am at ease moving forward with the surgery.
- I had rotator-cuff surgery last August. Dr. John Hinson was my surgeon. I had a desire to play golf again and reasoned advice from Dr. Hinson who helped me decide to get my shoulder fixed. My surgery, recovery and therapy went exactly as explained and I am very happy to inform you that I played 18 holes this past Saturday and my shoulder stood up very well.
